The mediaeval "city of the 99 churches" is surrounded by a impressive circular city wall which is unique to this calm and atmospheric city. Lucca is located in the heart of Tuscany, about 20km northeast of Pisa and 20km east of the Tuscan coast, situated in the Serchio valley. Characteristic for Lucca is the Roman-mediaeval architecture,the stunning Piazzas, such as the Piazza Anfiteatro and the Romanesque churches and mediaeval towers.
